DNP 840 Describe three factors that impact cost or revenue within your organization

Re: Topic 2 DQ 1

Healthcare organizations use different approaches to improve health and protect patients and populations. Commonly, these approaches and decisions that leaders and stakeholders make vary with the organizational culture, resources, and other variables. The outcomes also vary in terms of cost and revenue. The purpose of this discussion is to describe the factors that impact cost within my organization and the potential impacts on the DPI project variables.

The first factor with far-reaching effects is healthcare delivery models. Li et al. (2022) noted that the fee-for-service system increases medical costs by encouraging overtreatment and repetitive tests. Consequently, the continued focus on value-based care in the organization is one way of addressing the cost problem. Besides, such a care model will encourage patients to seek healthcare services due to high satisfaction and reduced costs. The other factor with weighty influence is the perceived value of healthcare. This usually applies to patients since it determines their participation in care and how frequently they seek medical services. The third factor is risk aversion, which entails the proactive measures that a healthcare organization utilizes to reduce risk and promote safety (Cerami et al., 2021). A suitable example is a culture of change to ensure continuous quality improvement. Besides, active participation in health promotion programs reduces vulnerability to chronic diseases hence reducing medical costs.

Jointly or independently, these factors impact the DPI project deliverables diversely. The proposed project entails using telehealth text messages to improve HbA1c levels among patients with type 2 diabetes. If effectively implemented, tailored and untailored text messaging is associated with positive outcomes, including improved HbA1c levels, self-care and diabetes medication adherence (Nelson et al., 2021). The organization will likely support the program since it typifies risk aversion and promotes value-based care. Furthermore, it encourages patients to be active participants in care, which aligns with the organization’s goal of promoting healthy living among patients and populations. Organizational support implies quick and sustained program implementation hence achieving the project’s deliverables.
