For nursing practice, the messages have improved nursing practice. For example, there have been improved inter professional collaborations between the nurses and other professionals such as the physicians in the different departments (Mcnamara, 2014). This aspect of nursing practice is essential because promotes continuous learning of the nurses by collaborating with other professionals and understanding the care from their perspectives. On education, the messages have resulted in increased numbers of nurse professionals going for the advances qualifications from Degrees to Doctorates. For example, many nurses are currently not stopping on graduation with their degrees but they instead enroll for continuous education in areas such as advanced nurse practitioner. This trend is in line with the message of the of IOM report that urges the nurse professionals to seek advanced degrees (National Academy for Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, 2010). Moreover, the key messages that shape the IOM report have also helped to transform the workforce development in the nursing profession.
