Valid data identifies the gaps in practices with the help of evaluation by the care team. The care team can identify the areas of weakness when treating patients with diabetes and is then able to focus on them to make improvements. This helps make decisions that would be the best to bring out improved outcomes with improved standardization. The valid data makes room for comparison to take place and this data can also be used to correct the invalid data. Identification of gaps with the help of valid data allows for preventing any adverse outcomes with diabetic patients in the future (Jones & Johnstone, 2019).
The specific regulatory bodies can improve the outcomes by providing standards of practice. One such regulatory body is HIPAA. HIPAA provides regulations and standards to maintain the confidentiality of patients. The data that is stored in the systems and EHR must be protected so there is no breach of security as the data is sensitive which may cause the patient to be exploited ((HIPAA) | CDC, n.d.).
HIPAA provides standards that only allow authorized users to have access to the information of patients and urges the data to be encrypted and password-protected. The HITECH Act is also the other regulatory body that helps promote knowledge and allows effective decisions to be made regarding the adoption of health information technology that may be useful and most efficient ((OCR), 2021).
Evaluation of ethical and legal practices would help achieve the best outcomes for diabetic patients as it would provide a standardized guideline for the practices. The ethical and legal practices that should be evaluated during the practices are that the medication being administered is safe and there are no medication errors (Wayne X, 2017). This can be achieved with complete transparency and improved communication.
Patients should be involved in the decision-making to make a treatment plan that is the most suitable for them and also aligns with their values. The implications of the control of diabetes should be descriptively educated to the patients so they are aware of everything (Wayne, 2017). Legal practices are that any diabetes-related emergency should be identified efficiently, and all patients have the right to be treated equally even if they are in custody (Goodwin University, 2022).
