NURS FPX 6008 Assessment 4 Lobby for Change – I’m writing as a San Francisco registered nurse to stress how urgent it is that San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH), located in San Francisco, California, obtain health insurance coverage. Many stakeholders have suffered as a result of this problem, making it difficult for them to afford health insurance (Tulane University, 2020).

The lack of health insurance has had disastrous effects on both the local society and individuals. It has increased the number of people who cannot afford basic healthcare, which has led to a rise in hospital admissions and the aggravation of chronic conditions. Moreover, those without health insurance are more likely to put off getting essential medical care, which could have an adverse effect on their general health and wellbeing. (Tolbert and others, 2020).

There are many benefits to addressing this issue, including bettering the general health of the individual, easing the pressure on emergency rooms, and lowering healthcare expenses. Preventing the onset of chronic illnesses, lowering hospitalization rates, and ensuring access to health insurance coverage all depend on timely and appropriate medical care (WHO, 2021).

Neglecting to tackle the matter could lead to unfavorable consequences, including greater financial burden on individuals and families, reduced availability of healthcare, heightened strain on emergency rooms, and deteriorated health results. According to Tolbert et al. (2020), not having health insurance can result in substantial financial pressures such as medical bills and out-of-pocket spending, which can lead to debt, bankruptcy, and other financial difficulties. If people lack insurance, they might put off getting medical attention, which could delay diagnosis and treatment, making health problems worse and raising long-term healthcare expenditures (Kaiser Family Foundation, 2021).

When seeking medical attention, those without health insurance frequently go to emergency rooms, which results in crowding and prolonged wait times. According to Tolbert et al. (2020), this has a detrimental impact on the standard of care provided to all patients, not just those without health insurance.

Those without health insurance may experience worsening health outcomes, including as increased rates of chronic illnesses, hospitalizations, and mortality, if they do not receive timely and appropriate medical care (Kaiser Family Foundation, 2021). According to Raghupathi and Raghupathi (2020), a lack of access to healthcare insurance coverage has an impact on the healthcare sector at all levels, from institutional to national.

This problem has been associated with higher hospitalization rates, growing healthcare expenses, and a general reduction in the quality of healthcare (Crowley & Bornstein, 2019). Expanding Medicaid, developing more inexpensive healthcare plans, and encouraging people to have health insurance coverage are among suggested solutions to this problem (Crowley & Bornstein, 2019).In order to ensure that suggested solutions are in line with the community’s cultural context, it is important to comprehend and respect the cultural beliefs, traditions, and values of the community being served (Stubbe, 2020). This is known as the principle of cultural sensitivity.

According to Haddad and Geiger (2020), the ethical concerns concept protects vulnerable populations from unjust burdens by ensuring fairness, justice, and equity for all members of the community.The diversity principle values and acknowledges individual differences, ensuring that solutions are offered that advance health equity and give low-income people and families access to necessary healthcare services at affordable prices (Tan, 2019). 

I have personal experience as a nurse with the negative effects of not having health insurance for both patients and healthcare professionals. As a nurse, I have firsthand experience with the consequences of the lack of healthcare insurancee coverage for both individuals and healthcare providers. It can be difficult to provide adequate medical care to people without insurance, which can cause moral quandaries and cultural tensions. It is challenging for healthcare professionals to provide every patient with high-quality care due to a lack of resources.

My background as a nurse has influenced the risk assessment and resource planning to handle this financial challenge. I’ve seen firsthand how people and healthcare organizations are affected by limited access to health insurance, which is why I’m suggesting solutions to increase access. To find any obstacles, a risk analysis was done, and mitigation plans were created.
